Dear Trader, Shopkeeper or Householder......

You will probably know that Sedgemoor District Council is awaiting a planning application from Tesco Stores Ltd, to build a Tesco Extra store on Northgate.

If planning is granted, the whole of the Northgate site will be sold to Tesco and a giant supermarket, at least half as big again as Sainsburys, will be built there.

Bridgwater Forward strongly believes yet another supermarket is not needed or wanted, and will only damage the already fragile trading state of our high street. This is also the view of Bridgwater Town Council.

We are therefore delighted that Bridgwater Town Council has invited Tesco representatives to attend a public meeting on

MONDAY 19TH MARCH
7.30pm, Town Hall

It is the traders and residents in the immediate vicinity who will be affected most by another giant supermarket in town. We are therefore encouraging as many people as possible to attend this meeting. Tesco still need to supply many details and answer many questions about their plans.

You are also warmly invited to the next meeting of Bridgwater Forward, on Tuesday 13th March, at the Railway Club, Wellington Rd at 7.00pm

SALLY JONES & DAVE CHAPPLE
CO-CHAIRS, BRIDGWATER FORWARD
